Peter A. Bruck points to the content divide

Location:
Salzburg, Austria

“The most important digital divide is the content divide” WSA Chairman Peter Bruck said at the sixth Internet Governance Forum in Nairobi. It was important to highlight that the digital divide meant not only an access divide in remote regions. With the content gap the richness and diversity of electronic products was at stake.

Bruck explained how the WSA network uses the mechanism of global contests to showcase quality content and create pluralism in the Internet ecosystem. Bruck showcased WSA-mobile winners like the Consumer Reports Mobile Shopper in the workshop “Building Trust Environment for e-Commerce Challenges and Innovation”. The App provides customers with unbiased product ratings and reviews when they need it most – at the point of purchase.

Bruck said the IGF had done a lot to close the content gap in the last years. In terms of enhancements he suggested to provide a similar knowledge base for participants to make sure the IGF-sessions will move ahead.
