WSA meets Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Nairobi
How can Internet Governance be integrated into development approaches? What is the role of journalists in the Internet 3.0 world? Does Governance vary, comparing mobile and wired Internet? These and other questions will be discussed by members of Governments, Civil Society, International Organizations and the Private Economy during the IGF in Nairobi, Kenya on 27-30 September 2011.
Peter A. Bruck, Chairman of the World Summit Award, looks forward to the global meeting: "The IGF is crucial for the exchange of ideas on IG4D-related matters and an inclusive platform for dialogue. It tackles a principle of the WSA-mobile contest: Do we meet the challenge of bringing quality content and access to the World?” Bruck is also going to present outstanding projects from last year's WSA winners on Sept 29th, at the workshop Good Practice Forum: Building Trust Environment for e-Commerce Challenges and Innovation.
Among the attendants in Nairobi will be eminent experts from the WSA-mobile network such as Nariman Hajiyev, National E-Governance Network Initiative (Azerbaijan), Poncelet Ileleji, Information Technology Association of the Gambia (Gambia), Rudi Vansnick, Internet Society Belgium (Belgium), Daniel Stern, Mobile Monday Kampala (Uganda) and Suleman Bakhsh, Telecommunication Regulation Authority (UAE).
The IGF is held annually and was established in the context of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). It aims to support the United Nations Secretary-General in carrying out the WSIS-mandate “with regard to convening a new forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue”. This year’s IGF will be hosted at the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON) under the device “Internet as a catalyst for change: access, development, freedoms and innovation”.
