WSA Road Show at International ICT Conference in Sudan

The WSA road show in the Republic Sudan was part of the "The Second International ICT Conference - E-Applications in Developing Countries: Directions and Challenges" which was held from 27 -29/11/2011, paralleling the largest ICT exhibition show of the country, the Kitex, in Khartoum.

The conference was organized by the National Information Center and the Computer Studies Committee and was held at the Minisity of Communications and Information Technology  Tower.  The Opening was done by His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Sudan, Dr. Haj Adam Youssef. Many of the sessions were personally joined by the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, His Excellency Dr. Yahia Abdalla, and the Head of the Computer Studies Committee (former WSA representative) Prof. emer. Aiz Eldien Mohammed Osman from Sudan University of Science and Technology, who is a strong supporter to the WSA idea in Sudan and abroad.

The Winners of the World Summit Award (WSA), World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) and World Summit Mobile Award (WSA Mobile) were represented through multimedia installations. Sudan's WSA representative Dr. Noureldien Abdelrahman from the University of Science and Technology in Omdurman says "It was logistically challenging to build such a large base of installations. However, with this road show we now reach many of the ICT-students in the greater Khartoum area."

Participating institutions were the "National Information Center" of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the "University of Science and Technology in Omdurman", the "National Ribat University", the "Alzaiem Alazhari University", the well-known "University of Khartoum", the "Al Neelain University", the "International University of Africa" and the "Sudan University of Science and Technology".

WSA delegate Christian Bauer gave a well received speech on "International Trends and Developments in Technologies Supporting Developing and Emerging Countries" at the conference. In his speech he pointed out the findings from WSA events held from 2003 till 2011 and the opportunities resulting from a favourable use of technologies for the Sudan.
